President Felix Tshisekedi has appointed Mrs. Kabedi-Mbuyi as Governor of the Central Bank. She replaces Deogratias Mutombo, who held the post for eight years. Mrs. Kabedi-Mbuyi has worked for the International Monetary Fund in several African countries, including Sierra Leone, Cape Verde and Burkina Faso.The new governor’s first task will be to work with the IMF to help implement a three-year, $1.5 billion extended credit facility.The terms of the program include increased autonomy for the central bank and reform of its board of directors.The DRC is in the process of obtaining a $1.5 billion loan from the IMF.
