Congolese contractor Eric Monga, his associates and partners have kept them bet. In Fungurume, the Lumbwe photovoltaic plant will soon be inaugurated. On Tuesday, March 14, the fixing of the last and 4368th plate marked the realization of his project.
Funguume’s 1st private photovoltaic park is one of the most ambitious in the DRC, with its rotating technology to capture the sun and its power. With a capacity of 46 megawatts, solar energy produced at the Lumbwe site will soon reduce the energy divide by about 300,000 people.
In Fungurume only 1% of the population have access to electricity. The electricity generated on the site will be operated by the national electricity company’s network to power the population. Eric Monga, CEO of Kipay Energy, explains “The capacity, for now, is 2.4 peak solar plus 1.8 peak storage.Our goal is to power the Fungurume population by injecting electricity generated by solar into the SNEL network”.
By 2024, the plant will reach its maximum production capacity thanks to the energy supplied by solar.
