Finance: more than 11,000 companies escape taxation

On 19 February in Kinshasa, the Inspectorate General of Finance (IGF) presented the results of an investigation carried out at the request of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI).
The investigation revealed that more than 10,000 companies, listed as bankrupt or inactive by the tax authorities, were operating in total secrecy and thus escaping taxation.
The IGF reveals that 11,038 companies deemed to be inactive are still present in the banking system with accounts that have been funded. These companies, now identified and updated, will be reintegrated into the tax system.
‘With this result, the DGI’s repertoire will be expanded, thereby maximising revenue’, said Barnabé Muakadi, Director General of the DGI.
The IGF also identified 935 companies operating in the banking sector that had no tax number and were operating without any tax control.
‘These companies were escaping the attention of the tax authorities. We found more than 11,000 economic operators who had been declared untraceable’, said Jules Alingete, head of the IGF, after handing over the results of the investigation to the DGI.
