Teddy Lwamba Appointed as SNEL’s New Director

The National Electricity Company (SNEL) has a new chief. By presidential decree read on public television, President Félix Tshisekedi appointed Teddy Lwamba Muba as director general of the state-owned utility and member of its board of directors.
At 38, Lwamba, a European-trained electromechanical engineer with a doctorate in electrical engineering, is no stranger to the sector. A former minister of water resources and electricity between June 2024 and August 2025, he previously served as SNEL’s deputy director general from October 2022 to June 2024, even briefly taking over as acting head after the suspension of his predecessor Fabrice Lusinde.
He now returns to lead a company facing major challenges: insufficient production capacity, aging infrastructure, and frequent power cuts that weigh heavily on the daily lives in the DRC.
