The Turkish Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Murat Ülkü, praised on October 29 the steady growth of economic relations between Türkiye and the DRC, stating that bilateral trade is expected to surpass USD 200 million in 2025.
According to him, Ankara and Kinshasa have now set a medium-term strategic target of USD 500 million, a goal he highlighted during celebrations marking the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye.
“We will continue to work closely with our Congolese partners to achieve the medium-term strategic objective of USD 500 million in bilateral trade,” he said, as reported by Actualite.cd.
“Our bilateral economic and commercial cooperation is developing in a positive direction,” Ambassador Ülkü added, underscoring the visionary leadership of Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Félix Tshisekedi.
Security, Infrastructure, and Expanding Cooperation
The ambassador pointed to several major Turkish-led projects underway in the DRC, including the Kinshasa Financial Center, the Kinshasa Arena, and the construction of the new Luano International Airport in Lubumbashi. He noted that the Turkish private sector could be further encouraged by improving security and strengthening the business climate.
On security cooperation, Ülkü highlighted tangible progress in defense collaboration between the two nations and announced that an evaluation meeting will be held in Ankara in the coming months.
He also welcomed the growing closeness between the Turkish and Congolese people, supported by trade, tourism, Turkish Airlines connections, and the Maarif school in Kinshasa.
“In the long run, the true guarantor of the success of our cooperation is the sense of affinity that fortunately exists between our two peoples,” he concluded.
