Congolese gold falls to USD 143.4 per gram in the week of September 21, 2026

An interrupted upward sequence

The decline follows several weeks of progression. From August 17 to 22, 2026, the gram of gold traded at 132.39 USD, against 131.84 USD previously, a rise of 0.41%. From August 24 to 29, the price had reached 142.71 USD against 139.23 USD, i.e. +2.49%. It had gained another 2.17% from August 31 to September 5, to 145.8 USD against 142.7 USD.

According to the official document, these upward, downward or stable movements of marketable mining products, agricultural products and small forest products stem from changes in international supply and demand as well as supply chain conditions.

A challenge for an economy dependent on raw materials

These price variations weigh on the Congolese economy, which is heavily dependent on exports of raw materials, particularly from the mining sector. Statistics from 2022 illustrate this sensitivity: total raw gold production stood at 29,498.09 kg, against 31,421.05 kg in 2021, a difference of 1,922.97 kg and a decline of 6.12%. Total raw gold exports had reached 28,306.26 kg for 1,104,005,214.58 USD, against 31,839.12 kg and 1,270,144,053.50 USD in 2021, a decrease of 3,532.86 kg (11.09%) in quantity and of 166,138,838.92 USD (13.08%) in value.
