PowerGen Accelerates the Energy Transition of the Mining Sector in the DRC

On the occasion of DRC Mining Week 2026, PowerGen reaffirms its commitment to supporting industrial and mining players in the Democratic Republic of Congo in their transition toward more competitive, more reliable and more sustainable energy.

A Strategic Partner for Major Energy Consumers

In response to the continuous growth of the mining sector’s energy needs, PowerGen is positioning itself today as one of the reference partners for the development of large-scale hybrid solar solutions in the DRC. Our team is currently working on a project pipeline representing more than 300 MW of solar capacity and several hundred MWh of battery storage, in discussion with some of the country’s largest industrial and mining players.

These projects aim to reduce energy costs, improve supply security and contribute to the decarbonization objectives of mining operations, while strengthening the sector’s competitiveness.

A Structuring Partnership with GreenCo

During the INDABA 2026 mining conference in Cape Town, PowerGen and GreenCo officially announced the signing of a co-development agreement for a 100 MW solar generation project associated with battery energy storage system capacities (BESS).

This initiative represents a major step in the development of next-generation energy infrastructure in the DRC. By combining technical expertise, financial innovation and a long-term vision, this partnership aims to sustainably support the country’s economic and industrial growth while accelerating the integration of renewable energy into the national energy mix.

SGB: Proof That the Model Works

Beyond future ambitions, PowerGen is already demonstrating its execution capacity on the ground. The recent commissioning of the hybrid solar power plant developed for SGB in Lubumbashi represents a true proof of concept of the value delivered by decentralized energy solutions.

This project clearly shows how Congolese companies can benefit from clean, reliable and competitive energy through the smart integration of solar power and storage, while reducing their dependence on conventional electricity sources.

Building the Energy Future of the DRC

As the mining sector continues to play a driving role in the economic development of the DRC, PowerGen intends to continue its mission: developing sustainable energy infrastructure that supports the country’s industrial growth while contributing to the energy transition of the continent.

PowerGen is proud to take part in DRC Mining Week 2026 and looks forward to continuing discussions with all stakeholders committed to building the energy future of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
