The signing ceremony took place in the presence of representatives of the provincial Ministry of Mines, administrative and customary authorities, MMG Kinsevere officials as well as representatives of the beneficiary communities. It was preceded by a discussion session devoted to understanding the commitments contained in the document and the terms of their implementation.
Water, agriculture, health and education
The specification provides for interventions in several sectors identified as priorities by the communities during the consultation process. Access to drinking water, agriculture, education and health are among the main areas targeted by this five-year program.
The five villages concerned are Mabende and 4 Coins, in Kyembe groupement, Lufira sector, Kambove territory, as well as Kyele, Rintu and Kawilila, in Katete groupement, Kafira sector, Kasenga territory.
The representative of the provincial Minister of Mines, Pierre Tshiyoyi, recalled that the signature constitutes a step in the process provided for by mining regulations. He specified that the document must still be examined by the competent bodies before its final approval by the provincial authority.
For MMG Kinsevere, this signing comes after several months of consultations and discussions with the various stakeholders. Charles Kyona, deputy general manager in charge of Corporate Relations, stressed the objective of turning the commitments made to the communities concerned into reality.
A third specification
The Nambulwa program is part of MMG Kinsevere’s community investment system. According to the company, it constitutes the third specification developed in Haut-Katanga, after that of Kinsevere, endowed with 6 million USD, and that of Sokoroshe, valued at 1.25 million USD.
At its Kinsevere site, MMG also indicates that its community investments include in particular the statutory fund of 0.3%, as well as programs devoted to education, health, water and infrastructure.
