In a country as vast as the Democratic Republic of Congo, logistics is not merely about transport. It is a decisive factor for economic development, territorial integration and the competitiveness of strategic sectors, especially mining.

As Country Director of Africa Global Logistics in the DRC, Eldon Khuty presents a clear vision: turning the country’s logistics challenges into growth opportunities.

A pan-African logistics career

Eldon Khuty has nearly 20 years of experience in logistics. He began his career with AGL in the DRC in 2007 before continuing in Mozambique and Tanzania.

This experience gave him a deep understanding of African logistics realities, regional corridors and the continent’s economic potential.

The DRC as a “country-continent”

For Eldon Khuty, the DRC is truly a “country-continent.” Its size, limited infrastructure and maritime access through the Congo River make logistics operations particularly complex.

But these constraints also represent opportunities. Developing rail, road and river transport networks is essential to support economic growth and improve the movement of goods.

Deep roots since 1953

AGL has been present in the DRC since 1953. This long-standing presence gives the company strong knowledge of the local market and a high level of adaptability.

Operating in 51 countries and part of the MSC Group since 2021, AGL also benefits from strong inter-corridor agility. This is essential in a country connected to several logistics gateways and international corridors.

A reference in mining logistics

AGL positions itself as a leading player in mining logistics in the Copperbelt. Thanks to its integration into the MSC Group, the company has privileged access to major port infrastructure and can offer complete mine-to-port solutions.

This approach meets the needs of mining operators looking for reliable, integrated services that comply with international standards.

Digitalization, traceability and sustainability

The logistics sector is moving toward more sustainable and digitalized models. AGL is investing in digital platforms to give clients real-time visibility over their shipments.

The company is also pursuing two priorities: reducing its carbon footprint and improving the traceability of goods.

Rail as the future solution

With export volumes increasing rapidly, Eldon Khuty believes rail must become central again. Modernizing the Sakania-Dilolo and Matadi-Kinshasa routes is no longer optional.

Rail offers a more competitive and sustainable solution capable of relieving pressure on road corridors.

Concrete social impact

AGL DRC employs nearly 1,000 people, 30% of whom are women. The company invests in local skills development and supports communities through its Solidarity Days.

For Eldon Khuty, success in logistics requires agility, adaptability, anticipation and operational discipline. In a complex environment like the DRC, these skills are essential.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the mining sector remains one of the country’s strategic economic pillars. In this environment, mining companies require reliable, efficient and tailored financial solutions that can support their operations in a constantly evolving market.

FirstBank DRC positions itself as a banking partner of reference for the sector, combining industry expertise, customized financial solutions and digital innovation.

Expertise dedicated to mining sector challenges

The mining industry has specific financial needs, including project financing, cross-border cash flow management, foreign exchange operations, transaction security, investment structuring and the optimization of complex financial operations.

As part of an international banking group, FirstBank DRC provides mining companies with robust solutions to support both local and international operations.

The bank supports operators facing major challenges such as market volatility, capital-intensive projects, regulatory requirements and complex transactions.

Tailored solutions for mining operators

FirstBank DRC acts as a strategic partner capable of offering financial services adapted to the realities of the extractive industry.

Its support covers day-to-day operational needs as well as broader issues related to investment, growth, risk management and international trade.

In a sector where speed, security and reliability are essential, a bank’s ability to understand the realities of mining is a major advantage for businesses.

Digital transformation serving performance

FirstBank DRC has also undertaken a gradual modernization of its services to improve the operational efficiency of its clients.

Through its digital platforms, the bank enables businesses and individuals to perform several operations remotely, including account consultation, transfers, payments and treasury management.

These solutions help optimize processing times, strengthen transaction traceability and meet security requirements. They also bring banking services closer to users in a country where physical access to branches can sometimes be challenging.

Supporting financial inclusion

Beyond technological innovation, FirstBank DRC’s digital transformation is part of a broader effort to support financial inclusion.

By facilitating access to banking services, the bank helps companies, entrepreneurs and individuals participate more fully in the formal economy.

This approach responds to a key need in the DRC: building a financial system that is more accessible, more efficient and better adapted to national realities.

A growth-oriented vision

By combining sector expertise and innovation, FirstBank DRC confirms its ambition to contribute actively to the development of the mining sector and, more broadly, to the country’s economic growth.

In a changing economic environment, the bank aims to support companies over the long term with solutions adapted to current challenges while anticipating future needs.

FirstBank DRC therefore positions itself as a banking actor capable of supporting the transformation of the mining sector, the modernization of financial services and the economic development of the DRC.

In a rapidly transforming mining sector, where performance is increasingly linked to inclusion and sustainability, Ecobank DRC has set a clear ambition: to actively support women entrepreneurs and business leaders in accessing economic opportunities.

Through its Ellever program, launched in the DRC in 2021 and strengthened in 2025 with an enhanced version, the bank places women’s entrepreneurship at the center of its inclusive growth strategy.

A program designed for women entrepreneurs

Ellever offers an integrated approach combining financing, business support, training, mentoring and networking. The goal is to respond to the specific needs of women entrepreneurs, particularly those operating in strategic sectors such as mining services, logistics, energy, oil and gas, healthcare, hospitality and equipment supply.

For Ecobank DRC, women’s inclusion is not only a social priority. It is also a driver of economic performance. As Joël Kabuya, Deputy Managing Director of Ecobank DRC, explains, women entrepreneurs are already active in key sectors and can have an even greater impact in strategic regions such as Haut-Katanga.

More than 500 women supported

Since its deployment, Ellever has already supported more than 500 women entrepreneurs in the DRC. The program has provided more than USD 20 million in financing, with a target of USD 100 million in loans by 2030.

These figures reflect Ecobank’s commitment to go beyond traditional banking services. The program aims to support the long-term growth of women-owned or women-led businesses, as well as companies that include women in their governance.

Addressing real business challenges

Women entrepreneurs often face several barriers: limited access to finance, lack of information, capacity-building needs, limited access to markets and fewer networking opportunities.

Ellever responds to these challenges through a comprehensive model. It provides tailored financial solutions, market access, training programs, mentoring and networking opportunities with economic partners.

This enables participating businesses to structure their growth, access new markets and position themselves in high-potential value chains, including those connected to the mining sector.

Supporting a more inclusive economy

By placing Ellever at the center of its participation in DRC Mining Week, Ecobank DRC confirms its role as a committed partner in inclusive economic development.

In the Congolese economy, where mining is a strategic sector, integrating women into mining value chains represents a major opportunity. It strengthens local impact, diversifies economic participation and supports more sustainable growth.

Through Ellever, Ecobank aims to help women become key actors in the DRC’s economic transformation.

Since taking office as Director General of the National School of Administration, known as ENA, in December 2024, Cédrick Tombola has positioned the institution as a key driver of public sector transformation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Confirmed in his role by the President of the Republic, he quickly launched a strategic plan covering the 2025-2027 period. Its central ambition is clear: to reform the ENA in order to reform the State.

A school serving senior public administration

The ENA is best known for training senior civil servants. Since its creation in April 2013, it has trained 9 cohorts, representing 842 ENA graduates and civil administrators.

These professionals are now deployed across public administration, public services and political offices. Their mission is to strengthen state effectiveness, improve public service delivery and support the modernization of the Congolese administration.

However, for Cédrick Tombola, the ENA’s role must now go further. In addition to initial training, the school must become a major platform for continuous training, institutional advisory services and research.

Expanding continuous training

One of the main priorities of the new strategy is to broaden access to continuous training for state officials and public sector managers. The aim is to extend the ENA’s impact beyond its traditional cohorts and make its expertise available to the wider public administration.

This responds to a pressing need: strengthening technical skills in key areas of public management. The ENA has developed certified training programs aligned with international standards, including those of the Project Management Institute and PECB.

These programs target public administration staff, state-owned enterprises, public institutions and project management units.

A new financial model for the ENA

When Cédrick Tombola arrived, the institution was heavily dependent on government and donor funding. In 2023-2024, the school was almost at a standstill due to insufficient resources.

To address this, the ENA diversified its business model and began building a stronger financial foundation. The results have been significant: total revenues increased from around USD 1.7 million in 2024 to approximately USD 5.4 million for the 2025 financial year.

This progress reflects the institution’s ambition to become more financially autonomous while strengthening its ability to deliver on its public mission.

Transparency, governance and certification

The transformation of the ENA also involves stronger internal governance. For the first time in its history, the school has introduced financial accounting and is preparing to publish its financial statements for the year ending December 31, 2025.

The ENA has also obtained ISO 9001 certification for its quality management system from AFNOR. This certification marks an important step toward professionalizing the institution and adopting stronger management standards.

For a school responsible for training the country’s administrative elite, these reforms are essential. They reinforce the ENA’s credibility and allow it to embody the good governance practices it seeks to promote across public administration.

Partnerships to strengthen state capacity

The ENA has also developed several partnerships with national and international institutions. These include the General Inspectorate of Finance, the World Bank’s AGREE project, the Ministry of Mines, the National Equalization Fund and the Ministry of Finance’s UGP-MOD.

Between 2025 and April 2026, nearly 1,100 participants were trained through these initiatives.

The school has also created a database of trainers and experts from the DRC, France, Belgium, West Africa and partner institutions. A new partnership with Expertise France, supported by the French Development Agency, will further strengthen the ENA’s work in administrative governance.

Building the skills public administration needs

Cédrick Tombola’s assessment is direct: the Congolese administration still faces a significant shortage of technical skills in several key areas.

To respond, the ENA aims to train public officials at scale in cross-cutting fields such as project management, public procurement, contract execution and procurement control. These skills are essential for a developing country where the effective implementation of public projects remains a major challenge.

With support from the World Bank, the ENA is preparing to train public procurement specialists who will be deployed in project management units.

Decentralization, a new campus and research

The ENA’s priorities also include the construction of a new campus, the diversification of its training offer, wider access to continuous training and the development of research.

Another important area is decentralization. The ENA is preparing a support program to strengthen institutional capacity in the provinces, with partners such as ENABEL showing interest in supporting this initiative.

This provincial focus is strategic. Reforming the State cannot be limited to central administration. It must also strengthen capacity in the provinces, where public policies have a direct impact on citizens.

The ENA at the center of state reform

Through its 2025-2027 strategic plan, the ENA aims to become more than a training school. It seeks to become a center of excellence for certification, advisory services, research and institutional support.

For Cédrick Tombola, ENA graduates already represent an important pool of talent for the Congolese State. More than 95% of them continue to work within public services, political offices or public administration.

The challenge now is to expand this impact, train more public officials and help build an administration capable of supporting the development ambitions of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Democratic Republic of Congo holds a strategic position in the global supply chain for critical minerals. Yet, despite the scale of its resources, the country still captures only a limited share of their real economic value.

Against this backdrop, the VUKA Group is launching the DRC Critical Minerals and Industrialisation Forum, organized alongside the DRC-Africa Battery Metals Forum. The objective is clear: to create a strategic platform focused on local processing, value addition, infrastructure development and industrialization.

Turning mineral wealth into industrial capacity

For decades, a large share of Congolese minerals has left the country in raw or semi-processed form. This has limited local economic benefits, particularly in terms of jobs, skills, infrastructure and industrial development.

According to Samukelo Madlabane, Event Director Mining at VUKA Group, the status quo is no longer enough. The DRC must move beyond raw mineral exports and build real processing and manufacturing capacity.

The Forum is designed to support this transition from a mining-centered economy to an industrial economy capable of processing, refining, manufacturing and creating greater value within the country.

A forum beyond traditional mining conferences

Unlike traditional mining conferences, which often focus on exploration, mining licenses, drilling, equipment and upstream operations, this Forum is designed as an industrial platform.

Mining remains the foundation, but the real focus is on what comes next: processing, refining, manufacturing, energy, telecommunications, water, logistics, investment and industrial partnerships.

The aim is not only to discuss mining, but to bring together the entire value chain. Mining companies, manufacturers, EPC firms, investors, technology providers and policymakers will be gathered around one shared objective: building a localized and competitive supply chain.

From mining activity to industrial partnership

The DRC Critical Minerals and Industrialisation Forum seeks to shift the conversation. The key question is no longer only what lies beneath Congolese soil, but how these resources can be processed, upgraded and integrated into a national industrial strategy.

This approach is particularly important in today’s global context, where demand for battery metals, critical minerals and secure supply chains continues to rise.

By aligning with the DRC-Africa Battery Metals Forum, the event creates a focused ecosystem for discussions on value addition, local processing and the DRC’s potential role in the industrial economy of the future.

Strategic sectors at the heart of the Forum

The Forum will cover several sectors that are essential to industrialization. These include mineral processing and refining, downstream manufacturing such as battery precursors and components, energy and power infrastructure, transport, logistics corridors, water and waste utilities, special economic zones, finance and project funding.

ESG standards, workforce development and local content will also be central themes.

These sectors are deeply interconnected. A processing plant cannot operate without reliable energy, roads, logistics, financing, skills and an appropriate regulatory framework. Industrialization therefore requires integrated planning.

Expected impact on projects and investment

The Forum is designed to deliver tangible impact. It aims to unlock projects, facilitate partnerships and accelerate investment in processing plants, energy systems, logistics infrastructure and industrial hubs.

For the DRC, the challenge is significant: moving from being an exporter of raw materials to becoming a competitive industrial economy.

This transition could help the country capture more value from its resources, create jobs, strengthen infrastructure and consolidate its position in global value chains linked to critical minerals and batteries.

A strategic opportunity for the DRC

The launch of this Forum comes at a key moment. Global demand for critical minerals is rising, supply chains are being reorganized and producing countries are seeking to retain a larger share of the value created from their resources.

For the DRC, mining industrialization represents a historic opportunity. It could transform mineral wealth into sustainable economic development, local industrial capacity and inclusive growth.

The DRC Critical Minerals and Industrialisation Forum therefore positions itself as a platform for dialogue, projects and partnerships to support this national ambition.
