DRC Targets Founding Member Seat at the African Energy Bank

A Congolese presidency in the offing

The Ministry of Hydrocarbons is to officially take the helm of the institution at the next ordinary session of the Council of Ministers of member countries, scheduled for November 17, 2026. On that day, Acacia Bandubola will seek the presidency mandate, said Karrol Kadiata, who presents her as the first woman candidate for the position.

To be recognized as a founding member before the official launch expected by the end of the year, the DRC must, however, ratify the founding treaty and pay its contribution to the share capital. The CEO of AEICORP, Zakaria Dosso, is confident: according to him, the country will make an initial payment and ratify the founding treaty.

An initial capital of 5 billion dollars

With an initial capital of 5 billion US dollars, the future bank will aim to finance more than 90% of the development of the hydrocarbons sector in Africa, according to the same source. APPO is thus accelerating the establishment of its own banking institution, in a context of progressive withdrawal of Western financial institutions linked to the energy transition.

By displaying its willingness to join the capital of the African Energy Bank and ratify its founding treaty, the DRC reaffirms its intention to participate in this African initiative in the energy sector, specifies the press release from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons.
