The contrast with the previous month is more favorable. On August 21, 2026, the dollar was worth 2,283.92 CDF: the national currency therefore shows an appreciation of 17.27 CDF over one month, or 0.75%.
**Other currencies and bid-ask rates**
The euro stood at 2,609.54 CDF and the Chinese yuan at 338.36 CDF. For the dollar, the average buying rate fell to 2,215.53 CDF and the selling rate to 2,317.76 CDF.
The BCC specifies that these rates are published for indicative purposes and that foreign exchange transactions are negotiated over the counter, according to supply and demand. It calls on the public to verify rate information against official data and to be vigilant about rates offered on the market.
**Why this rate matters for the Congolese economy**
The BCC’s indicative rate serves as the official reference for the entire economy: banks, businesses and importers rely on it to set their prices, while the State uses it to draft its budget and preserve macroeconomic stability. In a country where a large share of manufactured goods and inputs is imported, the trajectory of the CDF directly affects operators’ costs and household purchasing power.
**Pressures to watch**
The weekly depreciation remains marginal and with no significant impact reported on the parallel market, according to the BCC. The relative stability of the official rate since the start of September nevertheless contrasts with the volatility that can affect mining revenues, denominated in foreign currency, and public spending, expressed in Congolese francs. For Congolese exporters of copper, cobalt or gold as well as importers of fuel and capital goods, the evolution of the indicative rate remains a central management parameter.
