Ebola in the DRC: G20+ meets in New York to accelerate the global response

A meeting of G20 foreign ministers dedicated to accelerating collective action against Ebola is being held this Wednesday, September 23, 2026 in New York, United States, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The announcement was relayed by Africa CDC in an information note consulted Monday by ACP.

The DRC and Uganda are expected at this meeting, whose work focuses on the response to the epidemic raging in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which began five months ago.

## Connection between international commitments and national priorities

According to the Africa CDC document, the presence of the Congolese and Ugandan authorities should make it possible to better link international commitments to national priorities, as well as to the needs of affected communities and frontline actors.

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention welcomes the leadership of the United States in convening this meeting.

## A challenge reclassified as global security

The diplomatic and health event is presented as being of particular importance in the response, while the crisis linked to the Ebola virus disease in the DRC is now described as a global security issue.

The discussions are taking place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, a framework in which the Congolese health situation is at the center of discussions.
